Every route below is filtered through three MilesMax criteria: (1) partner-airline metal that pins pricing to the fixed-mileage saver band, (2) reliable saver-space release in at least one of the two seasonal windows (350-day opening or 14-day close-in), and (3) minimum 3¢ CPP at our 1.5¢ CAD Aeroplan baseline valuation. Western Canada to Japan — the flagship sweet spot
YVR ↔ HND / NRT in ANA business at 75,000 Aeroplan one-way is the single most reliable premium redemption in the entire program. ANA operates The Room, a fully-flat business suite that consistently outranks many airlines' first-class cabins in independent reviews. Cash fares hover around $5,500–6,500 CAD one-way; taxes on the award ticket cap around $120 CAD.

Air Canada also flies the route on the 787 with its Signature Class product. Pricing on AC metal is dynamic and typically runs 87,500–110,000 — still solid but not the flagship sweet spot. Always filter for ANA operating flights first.
North America to Europe — saver business on Lufthansa, Swiss, and Austrian
Transatlantic saver business at 60,000 Aeroplan one-way is the second pillar of Aeroplan's international value story. Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines all release inventory to Aeroplan at the fixed-mileage floor. YYZ→FRA, YYZ→ZRH, YUL→VIE, and YVR→FRA (seasonal) all clear at 60,000.
The trap on this route is taxes. Lufthansa Group carriers impose YQ carrier surcharges of $500–800 CAD per passenger per direction. Even with a 60,000-point saver, an award that costs $700 CAD in taxes on a $4,500 CAD cash baseline yields a CPP of roughly 6.3¢ — still gold-tier but not as clean as the ANA number. Route selectively: YUL→ATH on Aegean at 60,000 is essentially surcharge-free because Aegean does not pass YQ.
The Lufthansa First Class 100k redemption
For the once-a-year aspirational booking, Lufthansa First transatlantic at 100,000 Aeroplan one-way remains the crown jewel. Terminal access to the private First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, on-tarmac Porsche transfers, and a cabin regularly rated the best in the sky. Availability opens at ~T-14 days for elite Aeroplan members and T-0 to T-2 for everyone else. Cash equivalent frequently exceeds $12,000 CAD, pushing CPP past 11¢.
Short-haul North America — Aeroplan's economy gems
For domestic and cross-border travel Aeroplan's short-haul saver chart is genuinely one of the best in North America. Base cost is 6,000 points up to 500 miles, and 12,500 points from 501–1,500 miles.
- **YVR → SEA / PDX / SFO:** 6,000 points one-way. Frequent Air Canada Express regional flights.
- **YYZ → JFK / EWR / BOS / DCA:** 6,000 points one-way — cash fares routinely $250+ CAD, so CPP clears 4¢.
- **YVR → LAX / SAN / LAS:** 12,500 points one-way.
- **Trans-continental (YVR → YYZ or YUL):** 12,500 points off-peak, sub-3¢ CPP but still a solid budget domestic path.
Intra-Asia sweet spots most Canadian travelers miss
Once you land in Asia on a long-haul Aeroplan award, the intra-Asia short-haul chart opens a huge set of premium regional flights at trivial cost. All prices are one-way saver:
- **HND → HKG or NRT → TPE (ANA / EVA / Cathay):** 17,500 points business.
- **HKG → BKK / SIN (Cathay / Singapore):** 17,500 points business.
- **HND → SIN (ANA):** 25,000 points business — a 7-hour lie-flat leg for the cost of a single Amex Cobalt monthly bonus.
- **HKG → NRT (Cathay):** 25,000 points business — pairs perfectly with a YVR→HKG outbound and a NRT→YVR return, all on partner metal.
